A 62-year-old woman sustained burns to 50% of her body after an unidentified man allegedly doused her with what was believed to be petrol and set her ablaze at a lottery outlet in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur
According to China Press, the incident occurred yesterday, 9 August, when the victim, a counter attendant, was preparing to open the outlet.
She reportedly noticed a man approaching her and tried to escape into her office, but the man allegedly poured petrol over her.
The victim reportedly fell to the ground and begged for mercy, but the man allegedly set her on fire, causing her body to become engulfed in flames.
The suspect then fled the scene, while the victim ran to a nearby shop to seek help. A coffee shop employee reportedly used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
Authorities later received a distressed call at around 8am.

The victim has worked at the lottery outlet for the past two years and is reportedly well-liked by those around her.
Sentul acting district police chief Supt Jasni Zolpa said the victim was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she is currently in stable condition, reported the New Straits Times.
"Initial investigations found that the victim had no known enemies and had not received any threats previously.
"However, the motive for the incident is still being investigated," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous means.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect. Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng is also offering a RM5,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest, reported FMT.
