A pair of 19-year-old college students have been arrested after a newborn baby girl was found dead inside a toilet bowl at a rented house in Kluang, Johor

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the Kluang district police headquarters received a report at around 1pm yesterday, 29 July, after a female college student was admitted to Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Kalsom.

The student was believed to have recently given birth before contacting her teacher, who then arranged for her to be taken to the hospital for medical examination, reported Harian Metro.

According to Ab Rahaman, doctors confirmed that the 19-year-old had given birth.

Medical examinations also revealed that she was still pregnant with another baby girl.

Further investigations later led police to the rented house where the student had been staying, where officers discovered the body of a newborn baby girl inside a toilet bowl.

The newborn baby was found with stab wounds

Preliminary examinations found several stab wounds on the baby's body, although the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Following the discovery, police arrested a 19-year-old male college student believed to be the woman's boyfriend.

Police said an application has been made to remand the suspect at the Kluang Magistrate's Court.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 315 of the Penal Code for acts done with intent to prevent a child from being born alive or to cause the death of a newborn.
