Malaysian doctor and public figure Dr Amalina Bakri recently called out netizens for making inappropriate comments about her nine-week-old baby

Dr Amalina stated on her Twitter account that she initially did not want to bring up the uncomfortable topic, but felt compelled to do so after witnessing countless Muslim men and women discussing her daughter's genitalia.

She said the lewd comments began when she conducted a brief question and answer (Q&A) session on her Instagram account.

One of the questions asked was if there were circumcision services in the UK for her baby daughter, to which Dr Amalina replied, "No, it is illegal [to circumcise babies] in the UK."

Unfortunately, her brief answer was taken out of context by several local publications that incorrectly quoted her as calling the procedure 'haram' in the UK

Dr Amalina shared screenshots of three articles with the headlines "Circumcising female babies is haram in the UK - Dr Amalina".

The dissatisfied UK-based doctor clarified that she had never disputed Islamic law and that the publications had twisted her words.

"I have never disputed Islamic law. In fact, I have stated that if you are in Malaysia, you must follow the fatwa and the laws of the country. My statement was then picked up by Malaysian tabloids who wrote such headlines," said the new mother.

Dr Amalina said she was further perturbed when netizens began leaving highly sexualised and inappropriate comments about her daughter in the comment sections of the said articles

She attached screenshots of some of the comments that were "lewd, obscene, and insulting".

One user commented that women who are not circumcised would not feel satisfied in bed.

"You're straddling in bed, and before you know it, you're pregnant," he said.

Another user begged to differ and said that women who are not circumcised will feel more pleasure in bed and will satisfy their husbands.

A user replied saying, "She's (Dr Amalina's daughter) going to marry a Caucasian man just like her mother."

Dr Amalina said she was heavily affected by those comments, as the majority of them were directed at her infant daughter

She also begged Malaysians to leave her child alone.

"I wouldn't mind if those words were directed at me, but they went too far when they made lewd remarks about my innocent child. Please leave my daughter alone," she said.

The Malaysian doctor went on to say that she is in the process of suing the media outlets involved.

"I also want to chastise writers who use clickbait headlines or trivial stories from my Instagram Stories to sensationalise what I say, as well as allow Malay Muslims to fight and slander one another," she added.

"Where are your morals? There is no moderation in the comments section either. I hope the authorities are aware of this situation. Thank you, and Assalamualaikum."
