The Selangor Veterinary Services Department (DVS) has put the husky that was abused by a national badminton player up for adoption

The announcement was made on the department's Facebook page on Wednesday, 2 October, saying that the adoption application deadline has been extended to 8 October.

"I'm a husky! I'm looking for a new home!" reads the poster.

According to The Star, the husky has been identified as Kitster. The dog gained widespread attention after its owner, professional shuttler Samuel Lee, was caught on video beating it repeatedly on the balcony of a condominium building on 1 July.

The husky was rescued and has since been placed under the care of DVS Selangor

Its owner, 21-year-old Lee, was fined RM25,000 in default of six months' jail by the Kajang Sessions Court on 30 August.

The department said it will be looking for a "keen and qualified" individual to bring the husky home.

DVS Selangor stated that the applications are open to Malaysian citizens above the age of 21, and applicants must reside in the state

Those interested in adopting the husky can fill out the 'Borang Permohonan Pengangkatan Haiwan (Animal Adoption Application Form)' available on the DVS website.

The application form has to be completed and sent to the DVS Selangor office no later than 2pm next Tuesday, 8 October.

The applicant must not have any previous records for offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, and will be called in to attend an interview if shortlisted.
