E-Hailing Driver Praised For Comforting A Grieving Passenger
A little compassion goes a long way.
An e-hailing driver has received praise from netizens for comforting a passenger, who was grieving the loss of his father
The driver, Joe Oh, shared a video of his interaction with a passenger — an Indian migrant worker — while driving to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
In the two-minute and 30-second TikTok video, the passenger appeared distraught and struggled to hold back his tears.
Out of concern, the driver checked on the passenger, asking, "Are you okay, bro?"
The driver shared that the passenger had recently lost his father, whom he had last seen "many years ago"
Oh then struck up a conversation with the passenger, asking him about his family in India.
The passenger opened up, sharing that he is the only son in his family, and that he has a mother and a sister back home. He was travelling back to his homeland to visit his mother.
When contacted by SAYS, the driver said he hopes the video will be able to raise awareness about the challenges faced by foreign workers in Malaysia
At one point in the video, Oh said, "No money, many many problems", to which the passenger chuckled in agreement.
In his video caption, Oh expressed his empathy for migrant workers, saying he could afford to eat and sleep comfortably, while others were struggling to make ends meet.
"Do they deserve that?" he wrote.
Netizens flooded the comments section with praises for both the passenger and the driver
One user praised the driver for checking on the passenger and comforting him throughout their ride together.
Another user sympathised with the passenger's story, saying, "We're lucky to be close to our families in Malaysia. Many migrants travel long distances to earn a living with their children. Do good by them."
Meanwhile, another netizen wished both the driver and the passenger well in their future endeavours.
