Castrillo died of cancer at the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa at 10:45 am, according to the [Philippine Daily Inquirer] (http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/229011/monuments-builder-ed-castrillo-passes-away-73).

One of his relatives expressed her lamentations on a Facebook post
"Sad day for Castrillo Family. Today, our Uncle Ed passed away. He is the one who unite Castrillo clan together. Apo ni Tiago bonds became really strong because of him and his siblings who are all now together in heaven. Eduardo Castrillo is the sculptor behind the People's Power Monument in Edsa, Rizal's Monument in Luneta Park, Andres Bonifacio Monument near City Hall of Manila, the Heritage of Cebu in Cebu City… he built a lot of monuments around Philippines and many parts of the world (Asia, US, AU, Europe)… his legacy will live on!"
Filipino institutions like Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation and the Yuchengco Museum confirmed the news about his passing

Described in the 60s and 70s as "avant garde", Castrillo was known as the country's forerunner in all-metal (bronze and brass) sculpture mixed with non-traditional media such as plexiglass, neon lights, ivory and wood, according to his [website] (http://artist.eduardocastrillo.com/artist)
