Express Bus With 35 Passengers Onboard Overturns On North-South Highway
The case is being investigated for careless and inconsiderate driving.
An express bus veered off the road and overturned at KM41.3 northbound on the North-South Expressway early Wednesday morning, 27 December
According to the New Straits Times, Renggam Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Abd Rahim Razali said three passengers were initially trapped in the bus during the incident at 3.54am near Simpang Renggam, Johor.
However, the three passengers were succesfully rescued and only suffered minor injuries before they were quickly rushed to Kluang Hospital.
Fortunately, the remaining 32 passengers and driver escaped serious injury.
Preliminary investigations found that the bus driver had lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the road and turned turtle
Kulai district police chief Supt Tan Seng Lee said the police have recorded the 29-year-old driver's statement to facilitate the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, which carries a maximum 12-year imprisonment term and a fine of RM5,000 to RM10,000, if convicted.
