Family Of 4 Missing After Going Hiking In Gua Musang

A family of four and two mountain guides have been reported missing after they failed to emerge from a hiking trail in Gua Musang, Kelantan, as scheduled last Thursday, 3 September

According to the New Straits Times, the missing group comprises of Wan Ahmad Aslam, 39, and his wife, Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39, their children Diya Raisha, 13, and Ahmad Raef, 9, as well as mountain guides Shafiee Sidek, 49, and Hazman Mamat, 43.

The group began their expedition on 29 August, taking the Trans GBB route, which crosses three mountains — Gunung Gerah, Gunung Bilah, and Gunung Bieh — from Gua Musang towards Kem Kemor in Perak.

Wan Ahmad's father, 66-year-old Wan Zairudin, lodged a police report at the Bukit Jelutong police station in Shah Alam after he failed to make contact with the family

Wan Zairudin said he was worried that his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren may have been injured or run out of food.

"I am worried that someone may have been injured. They may also have run out of food as the supplies they brought were only enough for six or seven days, but it has now been more than 10 days," he said.

He urged authorities to expedite the search and rescue (SAR) operation, particularly in concern for his two grandchildren.

"My son is a project manager in Yong Peng, Johor, while my daughter-in-law works in Simpang Renggam. They often go hiking with their two children, and the longest they had ever stayed in the forest beyond their scheduled exit was just one day.

"This time, however, it is worrying as they have now gone four days without sufficient food," he said.

The family last heard from Siti Zulaiha on Tuesday, 1 September, when she informed them that the group was expected to emerge at Kem Kemor in Perak two days later, as scheduled

The Fire and Rescue Department launched a SAR operation today, 7 September, with helicopter assistance being deployed to locate the group and trace the route they are believed to have taken.

Wan Zairudin said his son had chosen the Trans GBB route, which he had never attempted before, as part of his goal to complete a series of mountain expeditions across Malaysia.

He had also planned to take his family to climb Mount Kinabalu next year.
