Brother And Sister Sent To Hospital After Father Allegedly Assaulted Them At Home
The children were aged five and eight.
Two young children in Segamat Baru, Johor are suspected to be abuse victims after they were sent to Segamat Hospital recently
On Monday, 5 February, medical officers in the hospital who were treating two children aged five and eight suspected that the kids were victims of abuse as they were suspicious of their injuries.
The medical officers proceeded to inform the police about the matter.
According to Segamat District police chief Superintendent Raub Selamat, the children's father had sent them to the hospital after seeing both of them crying in pain.
It was alleged that the man had lost his temper and acted violently against his two children at their home in Segamat Baru
It is believed that the 31-year-old man stamped on his five year-old son and also slammed his eight-year-old daughter down on the cement floor during the 7am incident, New Straits Times reported.
The father sent them for treatment at the hospital afterwards.
Raub told Sinar Harian that the two children have bumps on the head besides suffering from swellings in other parts of the body.
It was also revealed that the man's wife was also at the scene. However, Raub said that the woman did not do anything because she was worried that she would also become a victim of her husband's abusive behaviour.
Bernama reported that the man was arrested by the police at about 11am yesterday, 6 February
It was learned that the suspect does not have a permanent job and he does not have any criminal record.
"This is a serious case as it involves physical and mental abuse to the innocent children and we are still waiting for the children’s full medical report," Raub was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 while the man is being remanded for four days until Friday, 9 February, to assist in investigations.
