Muar Sessions Court judge Abu Bakar Manat was in tears while presiding over a case of a father who committed incest against his 14-year-old daughter yesterday, 13 July

According to New Straits Times, the judge was seen wiping his tears when he read out the facts of the case after the accused, who worked as a masseuse, pleaded guilty to three counts of incest.

"As a father, you should be the hero and protect the family. I am very sad this thing has happened," said Abu Bakar.

He then sentenced the 46-year-old offender to 24 years in jail and 10 lashes for each charge under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.

The provision carries a jail term of up to 30 years and 10 lashes of the cane for each charge.

The judge ordered the jail sentence to be run consecutively, meaning the man will be behind bars for 72 years and subjected to a total of 30 strokes of the cane.

The father was arrested on 8 July and charged with three counts of incest against his daughter

All three incidents happened at a house in Sri Medan, Batu Pahat, Johor on 22 June, 26 June, and 3 July, reported Harian Metro.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir prosecuted the case, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.

Prior to the sentencing, the prosecution asked the court to impose the maximum sentence due to the public interest and developments of the case.
