Former Olympic Silver Medalist Goh Liu Ying Gives Birth To First Child On Hari Kebangsaan
The 2016 Olympic silver medalist welcomed her first child on 31 August.

Besides the annual celebrations, one thing that piques the interest of many Malaysians on Hari Kebangaan is news about the numbers of babies born on the special day
New Straits Times reported that Pahang recorded 15 births, while Terengganu had 36, and Tunku Azizah Hospital (HTA) in Kuala Lumpur alone registered 19 newborns on that day.
Among the mothers who gave birth yesterday, 31 August, was Goh Liu Ying, the former national mixed doubles shuttler, reported Harian Metro.
"Welcome to the new world, my Merdeka baby. 'I am anak Malaysia'," wrote Goh in an Instagram post.
It is understood that the Melaka-born mother gave birth at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur. She did not divulge the name of her firstborn, but the Instagram photo hinted that it is a boy because of the letter balloons in the hospital room.
Goh welcomed her first child yesterday after announcing her retirement in January
The 34-year-old former athlete later announced her marriage and pregnancy in April.
Prior to her retirement, Goh spent majority of her career playing with her long-term partner, Chan Peng Soon.
After they parted ways last year, Goh went on to play with Ong Yew Sin and Soong Joo Ven, but she had little success with them, reported Stadium Astro.
In 2016, she won a silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics with Chan. In 2019, Goh also won the Thailand Masters and New Zealand Open with Chan, making it her most successful year in recent times.
