Hajjah Normah Abdullah, Malaysia's first female surveyor and a former lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, has continued to leave a lasting impact even after her passing through her organ and tissue donation
In a Facebook post yesterday, 22 June, Hospital Sungai Buloh paid tribute to Normah, describing her as an extraordinary woman whose pledge to become an organ donor was honoured by her children following her passing on Saturday, 20 June.
Normah, who was 72, previously served as a senior lecturer in Surveying and Geomatics at UiTM Shah Alam's Faculty of Built Environment.
She was widely recognised as Malaysia's first female surveyor, and her passing was also acknowledged by the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM).
"It is with deep sadness we announce that Puan Hajjah Normah Abdullah, the nation's first female surveyor, has returned to the mercy of Allah on 20 June 2026 at 5.20pm at Hospital Sungai Buloh, Selangor.
"May Allah SWT shower His mercy upon her soul and place her among the believers and the righteous. The management and all staff of JUPEM extend their condolences to her family," the department said.
According to Hospital Sungai Buloh, Normah's donated organs and tissues are expected to save and transform the lives of at least five patients
"In life, she educated the nation's children, and in her final breath, she continued to sow her contributions," the hospital said.
The hospital also shared a video of a final walk of honour held for Normah, where hospital staff and surgical teams from Hospital Sungai Buloh and Universiti Malaya paid their last respects. The footage was shared with the consent of her family.
The hospital added that the organ procurement also marked a new milestone in the collaboration between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
Hospital Sungai Buloh said it was honoured to work alongside Universiti Malaya's Hepatobiliary Surgery Team, whose expertise and commitment helped make the effort possible.
