In a tragic incident on Friday, 17-year-old Nor Dyana Abd Malek drowned while trying to prevent her 15-year-old disabled sister from falling into the river at Lata Lembik

According to a report in NST Online, the incident occurred around 4.50pm, 15 December, in Ulu Sungai Cheroh, Raub.

Raub police chief Supt Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu was quoted saying that the Dyana fell into the river while trying to prevent her sister from suffering the same fate.

Dyana, who herself was disabled, had gone to the recreational park for a picnic with 13 other family members

While Dyana managed to save her visually impaired sister, Siti Normala, she failed to control herself due to slippery conditions and fell into the river.

It was suspected that she was stuck under a rock in the river around 7pm yesterday evening, but villagers and firefighters failed to resue due to strong currents.

The search operation was resumed again at 8am today morning and her body was finally retrieved from the picnic spot at 11.15am, NST Online reported.

She had just completed her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam

Her body was sent to the Raub Hospital for post-mortem.
