The government has earmarked more than RM80 billion for subsidies, direct social assistance, and financial incentives next year to cushion the public against cost-of-living pressures and support vulnerable households.
During the tabling of the 2027 Budget, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said a substantial portion of the expenditure will continue to fund fuel subsidies, which are projected to remain at RM40 billion.
The government maintains these energy subsidies to keep domestic retail fuel prices stable despite fluctuating global crude oil markets.
Alongside fuel support, welfare allocations will see a significant financial boost
The prime minister said the Social Welfare Department (JKM) will receive nearly RM3.3 billion to fund its various social safety net programmes, providing monthly welfare aid, disability support, and elderly care services across the country.
