Businesses in Kuala Lumpur will now have a simplified application process for certain minor building works
This follows a streamlined permit system for low-risk jobs introduced by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Under the improvement announced by Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh earlier today, 11 August, businesses carrying out minor works that do not involve structural changes to a building will only need to fill out a form and notify the city council.
Examples of such works include replacing tiles or ceilings.
A permit can be issued at DBKL branch offices
The simplified permit can be issued directly through the DBKL branch office serving the relevant parliamentary constituency.
DBKL said the move is intended to speed up applications for low-risk works while maintaining existing compliance and safety requirements.
This means the new process is not a blanket exemption from DBKL requirements.
Works that involve structural changes to a building would not fall under the minor works arrangement described by DBKL.
DBKL says the process is being standardised
The improvement follows engagement sessions between DBKL, Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh, and representatives of business groups, including the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Chinese Coffee Shop and Tea Shop Owners' Association.
A separate engagement session was also held with the Malaysia Muslim Restaurant Operators Association (PRESMA), where issues faced by food premise operators were discussed.
DBKL said the changes are intended to streamline service delivery and reduce unnecessary processes for traders.
The city hall also said standardised procedures would make it easier for traders to understand what is required and for officers to carry out their duties consistently.
The simplified process will apply to traders who meet the stipulated requirements, regardless of their background or type of premises.
DBKL said it would continue improving its service delivery system while ensuring that any procedural relaxation does not compromise safety, hygiene, accessibility or public interest.
