If you've been planning to replace your old refrigerator or air conditioner, you could save an extra RM200
Starting 1 July, eligible households can apply for a RM200 rebate when purchasing selected energy-efficient refrigerators and air conditioners under the NUR@PETRA 2026 Domestic Programme.
The rebate applies to appliances bearing four- or five-star energy-efficiency labels certified by the Energy Commission (ST) or the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS).
A total of 160,000 rebates will be available under the programme, which is implemented by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) through the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA Malaysia).
The initiative is intended to encourage more households to switch to energy-efficient appliances
According to PETRA, doing so will reduce electricity consumption and lower monthly power bills amid rising energy costs and uncertainty in global energy markets, reported Bernama.
Over the next five years, the programme is expected to save around 552.25 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity, equivalent to approximately RM250.72 million in electricity bill savings.
It is also projected to reduce around 408,655 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions over the lifespan of the appliances.
Applications for the rebate open on 1 July.
Households can find the eligibility requirements, application process, and the list of approved refrigerator and air conditioner brands and models on SEDA Malaysia's official website.
