A 21-year-old basketball coach in Hong Kong faces widespread public condemnation after being accused of concurrently dating multiple women and infecting them with various strains of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

The high-profile case was exposed on 31 May during an episode of the popular Hong Kong current affairs television programme Scoop, according to ST Headline.

The suspect, identified only as H, allegedly maintained separate relationships with the victims by falsely assuring each individual that she was his exclusive partner.

The timeline of his deception spans from mid-2025, when a victim named Chan met him on a mobile dating application, to February this year, when another victim, Liu, crossed paths with him through work.

The intricate web of lies began to unravel in early March when Liu developed a high fever and required emergency hospitalisation. Medical professionals subsequently diagnosed her with multiple STIs, prompting her to launch an independent investigation to identify H's other partners.

On 18 March, Chan received an unexpected message from Liu warning her about H's medical condition

Chan immediately sought medical testing and discovered she had contracted nine different STIs, including HPV type 16, a highly dangerous strain known to cause cervical cancer.

A third victim, Huang, came forward after Liu shared her ordeal on social media, allowing the three women to piece together the timeline and realise they were being juggled simultaneously.

All three women ultimately tested positive for distinct strains of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and suffered from genital lesions.

Although H initially expressed remorse via text message and pledged to fully reimburse the women for their medical costs, he abruptly cut off all communication

He blocked the victims on his phone and social media platforms and continued to post flirtatious comments on other young women's profiles daily.

When Liu issued a formal lawyer's letter demanding compensation for her medical expenses and emotional trauma, H dismissed the claim through a written reply, asserting that they were merely casual sexual partners and that his multiple relationships were a personal lifestyle choice.

Determined to seek justice, the three victims cooperated to trap H by creating a fake online profile to lure him

The coach took the bait within a day, initiating highly flirtatious conversations and asking to see what the fictitious user was wearing.

The women then arranged a physical meeting under the pretence of a gym session, where a media crew from Scoop confronted him on the street.

Cornered by the television host, H refused to answer questions regarding his health status, stating only that any further communication must go through his legal counsel.
