Hiker Jaslinda Saludin, who survived nearly 14 days alone in the wilderness around Gunung Batu Putih, Perak, is believed to have lost close to 10kg during the ordeal
The 49-year-old was previously reported to have survived without food throughout her time in the jungle, relying only on water from various natural sources.
According to the New Straits Times, Tapah Hospital director Dr Wan Immi Salim said Jaslinda has shown significant improvement since being admitted on the night of 6 June following her rescue.
"There is a noticeable difference between when she went missing and when she was found. We estimate she may have lost close to 10kg.
"However, her condition is stable and she continues to improve. She is able to eat, speak, and communicate normally," Dr Wan Immi told reporters at the hospital today, 8 June.
She added that Jaslinda is expected to be discharged later this week.
"If her recovery continues as expected, she may be discharged within this week," she said.
Jaslinda remains under observation and is receiving treatment for wounds and abrasions sustained during her ordeal, as well as a leg injury that required a partial cast
Fortunately, those were the only injuries she sustained.
Although Jaslinda said she had fallen several times while trying to find her way out of the forest, medical examinations found no signs of head or brain injuries.
"When we first treated her, she informed us that she had fallen several times, especially in the early stages of her ordeal. She reportedly fell about 5m into a ravine, which caused her to lose her bearings and become disoriented.
"Because of these incidents, we conducted thorough examinations to rule out any head or brain injuries.
"So far, Alhamdulillah, there is no evidence of any injury to her head or brain. The only injuries identified are external wounds and abrasions," she said.
Dr Wan Immi also shared that Jaslinda was especially happy to be reunited with her husband, children, and other family members after being found
When asked whether the hospital had arranged counselling services, she said the facility does not have an in-house counsellor.
However, medical staff continue to regularly monitor Jaslinda's emotional wellbeing.
"Our ward staff regularly check on her wellbeing, and I personally ask her whether she is able to rest, sleep, and cope with her situation.
"Alhamdulillah, everything has been very positive. She is a very positive woman with a strong will. I believe that has been a major factor in her remarkably fast recovery," she said.
