JB Firemen Saved A Man From Jumping Off A Bridge By Offering Him A Cigarette

The man was about to jump off the Sultan Ismail bridge yesterday.

A man, who was attempting suicide on the Sultan Ismail bridge in Muar yesterday, 5 March, was rescued by firemen who offered him a cigarette

Malay Mail reported that the Johor Fire and Rescue department were alerted about the matter at 10.29pm, when passing motorcyclists noticed the 30-year-old man acting suspiciously on the bridge.

It was believed that the man would have jumped off the bridge when firemen arrived at the scene

A spokesman from the Muar fire station was quoted as saying by Malay Mail today, that "a team of nine firemen with a fire engine and one boat" were dispatched to the scene after they received a distress call.

The man was then persuaded by the team to walk to the middle part of the bridge, which was a safer area.

He added that, "The team later lured him to safety by offering him a cigarette."

The man was then brought to a police station for further inspection

According to Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaharudin Rasip, police have since received a report on the incident, which ended at 10.56pm.
