On Sunday, May 28, former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob tweeted a video of himself and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin riding the MRT

In the one-minute clip, the men can be seen greeting and shaking his hands with commuters at an MRT station, while boarding the train with their entourage.

According to the tweet, Ismail Sabri said that he took the train with Khairy to go back to his home, and the two travelled together from Jalan Alor to Semantan.

"Even though it was 11pm, there were still a lot of people using the MRT. It is now the main mode of transportation," he wrote in the tweet.

Netizens noticed that Ismail Sabri and Khairy were both not wearing face masks in the video

"How come they were allowed to not wear face masks inside the train? Is there a double standard here?" asked a Twitter user.

Another user wrote that they were recently scolded by an MRT employee for not wearing their face mask while waiting for a train.

Meanwhile, some users defended the two, arguing that wearing face masks inside the train should no longer be required.

"Hmm, a lot of people are not wearing them anymore, myself included. I don't think it's valid anymore to suddenly wear them inside the train when you don't have to elsewhere," wrote one user.

Responding to the commotion online, RapidKL tweeted on its account that wearing a face mask is still mandatory when using public transport

"Remember, you must wear face masks when riding the train and bus!" they wrote on Twitter, adding a poster of an announcement dated 7 September 2022.

"Together, we should practise a high level of personal hygiene when using public transport," they added.

"Is this rule only mandatory for normal citizens? Politicians don't have to follow it?" one user replied to RapidKL's tweet.

"Hypocrite!" another user replied.
