A Man In KL Punched His Pregnant Wife And Pressed His Knee Into Her Swollen Belly

The man was arrested after the wife lodged a police report.

In an incident that happened on Friday, 17 July, a husband in Rawang was arrested under Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994

The husband, a 26-year-old storekeeper, is said to have punched his pregnant wife.

According to a Bernama report, the 29-year-old woman is over seven months pregnant.

During the incident at about 11am yesterday, the suspect punched the victim and also pressed his knee into her stomach over what Bernama described as "family misunderstanding".

The wife lodged a police report against the man

Gombak district police chief ACP Arifai Tarawe said the 26-year-old man was arrested at about 12.30 pm over the incident that happened in an apartment in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang.

He added that the 29-year-old victim was taken to a hospital, where she is now in a stable condition.

Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 is a seizable offence

Under this offence, the police can make an arrest without a warrant.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a 30-year-old husband was arrested after beating and threatening his wife with a machete in Gombak

The incident happened in Taman Samudera at 7pm on Wednesday, 15 July, following which the wife lodged a police report against the husband for turning violent and putting a machete to her neck.

According to the 30-year-old wife, he also took away her mobile phone.

In a statement yesterday, ACP Arifai said that this case is also being investigated under Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 in addition to Section 506 of the Penal Code.
