Barisan Nasional Wins Pengkalan Kubor By-Election With Bigger Majority

Barisan Nasional maintained its hold at the Pengkalan Kubor state constituency seat after winning the by-election with a 2,635 majority. BN candidate, Mat Mat Ail Razi defeated PAS' candidate Rosdi Wan Wan Ibrahim and independent candidate, Ismail Bukhary Izat Bukhary .

PAS said today that it had expected to lose in the Pengkalan Kubor state seat by-election, following the drop in percentage of voter turnout compared to the 13th general election. Director of PAS Pengkalan Kubor by-election central operations Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the percentage of voters in the by-election was 72.8%, compared to 78.9% during the general election. Pengkalan Kubor voters have been urged to think deeply and wisely on whom they want as their assemblyman come polling day on Thursday, said Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong. Born in Kota Baru and living in Kubang Kerian, Izat Bukhary, 47, said his appeal lay in the principles he was championing that differed considerably to those of the other candidates. He however declined to elaborate just what those principles were.
