M'sian TikToker Claims To Earn Up To RM4,000 A Month By Creating Content As A Side Hustle
The TikTok content creator revealed that they are still a degree student and makes content on TikTok on the side.
TikTok has birthed many opportunities for individuals across Malaysia.
From catapulting creators to viral success to opening doors with brands and sponsorships, TikTok has become an avenue of opportunities for many.
For example, a 'booktok' influencer by the name of Dayana managed to open her very own book café, Orchid's Library, through building her very own book-loving community on TikTok.
SAYS has also featured seven other Malaysian TikTokers who managed to go viral and end up on billboards around Kuala Lumpur, each with their own passion and the opportunity to tell their story to the rest of the country.
Aside from viral success, however, it seems TikTok is also a great avenue to earn some side income
Instagram page @malaysianpaygap recently featured an anonymous TikTok content creator who allegedly earns up to RM4,000 a month by being a content creator as a side hustle.
The Instagram page advocates salary transparency by featuring anonymous job details and paycheck submissions from average Malaysians.
The TikToker said they have one million followers on the app and started their TikTok journey 10 months ago in January.
While still a degree student, this TikToker revealed that they earned the money through obtaining live gifts, video gifts, and paid reviews. They explained that they do livestreams on a daily basis or whenever they have some free time. For a two-hour livestream, they claim to be able to earn around USD50 (RM232).
The TikToker explained that their average income on TikTok per month was approximately USD1,000 (RM4,639)
They also revealed that the highest amount they have ever earned on TikTok was USD2,600 (RM12,061).
As a note, Malaysian TikTokers are NOT eligible for the Creator Fund, which allows creators on TikTok to earn funds based on their account and video performance on the app. The TikTok Creator fund is only available to creators from the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.
However, like this TikToker, Malaysian creators can earn money through brand deals, livestreams, and virtual gifts.
The TikToker also mentioned that compared to others, theirs wasn't the higher income bracket that a creator could earn on the app
This was due to the fact that other TikTokers are able to get on the weekly ranking of creators, which allows them to earn significantly more. They said that a creator who manages to get into the weekly ranking can earn between RM10,000 and RM20,000 per month.
According to TikTok, Weekly Rankings is a ranking system which rates creators based on the number of Diamonds collected during a livestream. The more diamonds a creator collects during their streams, the higher their ranking. Creators who are in the weekly top 20 livestream hosts are awarded special prizes.
The TikToker advised anyone who was interested in making money on the platform to keep posting on TikTok and to be consistent with their content.
