A Malaysian woman was kidnapped and held to ransom in the Philippines after believing she had met "The One" through a dating app

Excited to meet her love "Jerry" for the first time, the woman booked a flight to the Philippines on Monday, 12 September, reported Free Malaysia Today.

“She arrived in Manila on Monday, 12 September, where she was met at the airport by a Chinese man who took her to Carmona, Cavite where she was detained,” said Philippines police chief Rodolfo Azurin.

Her abductors then made her contact her family members and demanded RM26,000 in exchange for her release.

However, the abductors failed to realise that the woman had secretly sent details about the two suspects, as well as the car they were driving as soon as they picked her up from the airport

Through the information provided by the woman, the Filipino police were able to trace their whereabouts and launched a rescue operation to free her.

The two suspects, one of whom was a Malaysian man, were then apprehended and brought to the national police headquarters in Quezon City.

As of writing, it is not known whether the victim sustained any injuries from the incident.
