Local actress and former model Zahnita Wilson's husband has been arrested after she revealed on Instagram yesterday, 2 December, that she is a victim of domestic abuse

"I didn't want to do this... but I am forced to. This is why I left my old house… and why I sometimes wear sunglasses," she captioned a collage photo showing bruises under her left eye.

According to Harian Metro, Kuantan district police chief ACP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the man was arrested after surrendering himself at the Kuantan district police headquarters yesterday.

"It is understood that the actress involved wanted to live separately after being a victim of domestic violence.

"At that time, the victim's husband threatened to kill her if she left the house, and then he injured her," Wan Mohd said when contacted.

The case is currently being investigated under Sections 506 and 323 of the Penal Code, and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act.

The abuse is believed to have occurred on Tuesday, 26 November, during a disagreement at Zahnita's residence in Kuantan, Pahang

Sinar Daily reported that the 39-year-old actress confronted her husband to ask if he was having an affair with another woman.

"The reason I was hit was because I asked my husband if he had another girl.

"He couldn't process the question well enough to give a verbal answer," she said.

In 2013, Zahnita filed for divorce in the Shah Alam Syariah Court, but the case was never finalised.

She explained at the time that she was not "fated" to remain with her husband. However, she stayed in the 20-year marriage for the sake of their children.

The celebrity of Malay-New Zealand parentage has four children with her husband.

Zahnita is popular for her role in the 2004 movie, 'Kuliah Cinta'.
