A 66-year-old Malaysian man working as a personal driver has become an overnight millionaire after winning RM23.95 million in the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot
The Kuala Lumpur resident had been playing Sports Toto regularly for about a decade, using numbers inspired by his family, before striking the jackpot with a ticket bought in Negeri Sembilan.
He bought the winning ticket while visiting his daughter over the weekend of 29 August, the New Straits Times reported.
His winning numbers, 3, 5, 6, 10, 20, and 42, all had personal significance.
The numbers 3 and 6 represented his three children and six grandchildren.
Numbers 10 and 20 referred to his wedding date, 20 October, while 42 represented the number of years he had been married.
He had recently changed one of his numbers from 5 to 6 following the birth of his sixth grandchild.
The man said he was having dinner when he spotted the numbers
"When I saw the numbers while having dinner, I immediately stopped eating and asked my daughter to check the result for me," he said in a statement.
His daughter checked the ticket through the Toto Mobile App and confirmed that it was worth RM23,945,954.40.
He plans to clear his family's debts
The new millionaire said he had always promised that, if he ever won the jackpot, he would use his winnings to settle the outstanding loans and debts for every member of his family.
He now plans to keep that promise and save the remaining money for his retirement.
STM Lottery Sdn Bhd confirmed that the winning ticket was from the 29 August draw, held under draw number 6177/26.
