Thousands of Malaysians who commute to Singapore for work each day have been advised to start their journeys earlier to avoid heavy morning congestion at the Sultan Iskandar CIQ Complex
In a statement issued yesterday, 21 July, the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said its monitoring found that most Malaysians working in Singapore begin their journeys between 6.30am and 7.30am, causing a surge of travellers at the immigration checkpoint.
The agency therefore urged commuters to plan their journeys earlier to avoid delays during the morning rush.
To help improve traffic flow at the checkpoint, AKPS also urged travellers to cooperate with officers and make use of the MyNIISe app
The agency advised travellers to follow instructions from officers on duty, including moving to the back of the queue to fill vacant inspection lanes.
Doing so helps distribute travellers more evenly across all lanes and speeds up the overall immigration clearance process.
Meanwhile, those using the MyNIISe app should ensure their QR code is updated and ready before arriving at the inspection lane, as updating it at the counter could contribute to congestion.
Commuters are also reminded to enter the correct immigration clearance lane, whether using manual counters, MyBorderPass, or MyNIISe
"Choosing the correct lane not only speeds up their own immigration process but also helps minimise disruptions for other travellers," AKPS said, adding that public cooperation is crucial in ensuring smooth, safe, and orderly border clearance.
The agency added that, in line with the government's efforts, digital immigration services will continue to be expanded, while the number of manual immigration counters will be reduced in stages.
