A man was killed while his fiancée was gravely injured in a tragic car accident at KM105 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan in Kemaman, Terengganu on Saturday night, 13 May

According to Astro Awani, in the 11pm crash, 24-year-old Muhammad Aliff Hafizzudin Samsul from Kampung Bukit Kuang, Kemaman, died at the scene.

Meanwhile, his fiancée, Nuralifah Ilyana Azman from Kampung Seberang Pintasan, Dungun, was rushed to Kemaman Hospital for immediate treatment.

According to Kemaman police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan, the couple was believed to have been on their way home from purchasing their engagement rings

Hanyan said Aliff, who was the driver, was said to be sending his soon-to-be wife back to Dungun after purchasing their rings in Kemaman.

However, while on the way back, a Mazda MPV on the other side of the road lost control and swerved onto their side of the highway.

"The MPV entered the right lane of the opposite road and collided with [the victims' Proton Wira]," said the police chief.

"The impact caused the Wira to be crushed and overturned," he added.

According to New Straits Times, a team of firemen from the Kerteh Fire and Rescue station took 30 minutes to remove the trapped victims from the wrecked vehicle.

However, Aliff, who suffered injuries to his head and body, was confirmed dead at the scene by medical officers

The police chief said the deceased's body has been handed over to his family for burial after it was first sent for forensics at Kemaman Hospital.

Meanwhile, Nuralifah, who was injured in the face and head, was rushed to the same hospital for treatment.

It was later reported that she has been transferred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for further surgery.

"I cannot bear to even look at all the things in the house for their engagement because I end up crying, thinking about what happened," said Nuralifah's mother, Salmah Idrus, when met at their family home after the accident on Sunday, 14 May.

The case is being investigated according to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving.
