A 23-year-old man has died in a suspected hit-and-run incident while putting up state election flags for a political party in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan
According to Berita Harian, the incident occurred along Jalan Kuala Sawah-Rantau near Kampung Belangkan at about 6.40pm yesterday, 19 July.
Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman said preliminary investigations found that the victim was allegedly struck by a lorry, which fled the scene after the crash.
He said the lorry is believed to have veered into a signpost where the victim was installing party flags.
"As a result of this collision, the [victim] is said to have fallen onto the emergency lane and suffered injuries to his face and head before being confirmed dead at the scene," Mohd Yatim said.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving
If convicted, the suspect faces up to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to RM20,000.
