On Wednesday, 25 January, a Penang motorcyclist abandoned his fallen fiancée on the side of the road after getting spooked by a Road Transport Department (JPJ) checkpoint at the Penang Toll Bridge Plaza

The two were driving from Seberang Perai to George Town when they spotted the roadblock, reported Berita Harian.

Penang JPJ director Adenan Isa said their vehicle was flagged down by officers who directed them to the side of the road for further inspection.

However, when the rider came to a screeching halt, his fiancée fell off the bike. He then hastily U-turned to flee the scene, deserting his fiancée instead of helping her off the road.

"The man in question was probably startled. When he braked, the passenger fell and suffered a minor injury to the palm of the hand," Adenan said.

Videos of the incident, shared by RTM cameraman Amirul Amin, has since gone viral on TikTok, with netizens chastising the motorcyclist for leaving his fiancée behind.

The JPJ director said he suspected the man fled because he did not have a proper licence for his motorcycle

According to Adenan, the woman is in her 20s and confessed that she was engaged to the man when questioned by officers.

She was not arrested as she was not found to have broken any laws, but disappeared shortly thereafter without receiving any treatment for her injury.
