Transport Minister Confirms MAVCOM Chief Earns RM85,000 Per Month

RM85,000.

That's how much the executive chairman of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) earns a month, as revealed by the Transport Ministry.

The revelation comes after a viral social media post alleged that the MAVCOM chief’s monthly salary is RM80,000, Malaysiakini reported.

The current executive chairman is General (Rtd) Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad.

According to Transport Ministry Anthony Loke, the MAVCOM executive chairman’s salary increased by 8% from RM78,300 in the two years since the aviation governing body was established in 2016

"That’s more than the prime minister’s basic salary of RM20,000 plus a month," the Seremban MP said as quoted by Free Malaysia Today (FMT)

MAVCOM has been self-funding its operations after receiving an initial grant of RM90 million.

Loke revealed that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has agreed to review the salaries of all chairpersons from statutory bodies, commissions, and government-linked companies

On a related, Loke said the government has no plans of shutting down Mavcom.

"Mavcom will stay for the time being. We have no plans to abolish Mavcom," the minister said.
