The Only Malaysian Who Helped This Poor Kid In The Streets Was A Blind Pak Cik
Would you help him?
Local production house, Maxman.tv, recently uploaded a video of a social experiment that seeks to find out if Malaysians would help a poor kid in the streets
In the video, a young boy, identified as Adam, was placed in the streets and the crew waited to see how passersby would react.
Adam went around trying to sell food to people.
A few people stopped by to ask what the young boy was doing on the streets but none of them wanted to buy the cookies that he was selling.
It was only two hours later when someone actually wanted to help the 'poor boy'
Adam approached a blind man sitting on a flight of staircase and the pak cik wanted to buy some cookies from him.
The Maxman.tv crew later revealed to the blind man that this was actually a social experiment - that Adam is only an actor - and gave him some money. The blind man was clearly moved to tears as he thanked the man who handed him the money.
The video was shared for more than 11,000 times and has now been viewed for more than 550,000 times since it was first uploaded on Maxman.tv's Facebook Page on Monday, 8 August.
Many have applauded Maxman.tv for producing such a thought-provoking video that prompted them to re-think the way they would approach such cases
Meanwhile, others felt that the social experiment is a "failure", arguing that it does not correctly represent Malaysians given the circumstances of the scenario
Many people cited their past experience where they had dealt with fake individuals who posed as beggars to gain sympathy from the public.
They defended that Malaysians are generous but the rakyat have to exercise wisdom as it is rather common to fall for a scam in such cases.
They added that Malaysians are now more keen on looking for genuine platforms if they wish to help the poor or homeless, by joining reputable NGOs and NGIs.
