The Melaka government has assured the public that the state's water supply remains safe after suspected human remains were found in the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve yesterday, 13 September
According to Bernama, Melaka state secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh said ongoing water quality monitoring has detected no breaches in the required parameters.
"The state government understands the public's concern, especially since the discovery site is part of the catchment area and source for Melaka's water supply," she said in a statement yesterday.
However, she said all water undergoes rigorous treatment before being distributed, while water quality is continuously monitored and tested according to established standards.
Nonetheless, she said authorities will step up monitoring and inspections in the affected area, including conducting additional water sampling and testing
Salhah added that state agencies would continue working with the police and relevant technical agencies to ensure the matter is properly addressed within their respective jurisdictions.
She stressed that the discovery of suspected human remains in the reserve should not, at this stage, be regarded as evidence of water contamination or a threat to public water safety.
She said any conclusions should instead be based on monitoring results, water samples, and official technical assessments by the relevant authorities.
Salhah also urged the public not to panic, jump to conclusions, or share unverified information about the incident.
"The state government assures that the safety of water sources and the public's interests will always be prioritised, and a precautionary approach will continue to ensure public confidence in the safety of the water supply," she said.
