METMalaysia Issues Severe Weather Warning For Several States Until Tuesday

The department warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds of up to 60km/h during this period.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued severe weather alerts for several states today, 8 January

According to Bernama, the department warned that heavy rain is expected to continue from Friday, 8 January, until Tuesday, 12 January.

It also warned that strong winds up to 60km/h and waves on the east coast reaching 4.5m high are expected during this period.

The alerts are namely for residents living in the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor

An orange-level alert for severe weather condition with heavy rain was issued for the districts of Kuantan, Bera, Pekan, and Rompin in Pahang, and Segamat, Mersing, and Kota Tinggi in Johor.

A yellow-level alert for heavy rains was also issued for these districts:
- Kelantan and Terengganu: Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman
- Pahang: Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, and Maran
- Johor: Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, and Johor Bahru

The statement added that northeasterly winds of up to 50km/h, with waves up to 3.5m high, are also expected to occur in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan waters during the same period.
