Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah just announced that there are 50 new cases of COVID-19 today, 22 April

During the press conference announcing the daily COVID-19 updates, he said that this brings the number of cases in Malaysia to a total of 5,532.

Meanwhile, only 1,987 out of the total are active cases.

He also added that the ministry will meet with the Prime Minister and discuss whether to extend the Movement Control Order (MCO) within three to four days before 28 April

A total of 3,452 patients have been discharged from hospitals since the disease was first identified in the country and within the past 24 hours, 103 patients have fully recovered.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has been recording a stable increase in the number of cured patients with 62% of the total infected recovered from the novel coronavirus.

However, Dr Noor Hisham says that there are still several criteria that the country has to fulfill before the MCO can be lifted.

The latest patient to die of the novel coronavirus in Malaysia had a history of cancer and high blood pressure

According to MOH, the patient was a 72-year-old woman who was being treated at Sarawak General Hospital.

In total, Malaysia has recorded 93 deaths.

On the other hand, there are currently 43 patients receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units, with 25 of them requiring breathing assistance.
