Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that there are more new cases than new recoveries today, 29 April

During the press conference announcing the daily COVID-19 updates, he said that there are 94 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

This brings the number of cases in Malaysia to a total of 5,945 but only 1,758 out of the total are active cases.

The spike in new cases is due to imported cases from Malaysian who just returned from overseas

Of the 94 new cases, 72 are imported cases from students who just came back from Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the remaining are local infections.

The Health director-general also noted that 50,000 antigen rapid test kits will arrive in the country on Friday, 1 May.

They will be prioritised for use in Sabah and Sarawak due to the general logistic challenges faced by those states in screening patients.

Within the past 24 hours, 55 patients have fully recovered

A total of 4,087 patients have been discharged from hospitals since the disease was first identified in the country.

The Ministry of Health's official Twitter account noted that the public should continue to abide with the Movement Control Order (MCO) and practise social distancing.

There are no coronavirus-related deaths reported within the past day. Therefore, Malaysia's COVID-19 death toll is still at 100.

On the other hand, there are currently 40 patients receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units, with 80 of them requiring breathing assistance.
