Mother, 8 Children & A Mechanic Killed After Trailer Crushes Multiple Vehicles In USJ
The family of 10 were travelling in a single Proton Wira, driven by the deceased woman's husband, who suffered injuries.
Last night, 17 December, 10 people were crushed to death after a trailer rammed into multiple vehicles at the USJ Rest and Recuperation area of the North-South Central Link Highway heading to Shah Alam
In total, the accident involved 17 victims of which 10 have been confirmed dead.
"The dead were a man and a woman, while the other eight involved five boys and three girls," Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Norazam Khamis said in a statement today, 18 December.
The trailer had rammed into two Proton Wira cars and a Perodua Axia.
According to New Straits Times, a team of 12 personnel from the Subang Jaya and Puchong Fire and Rescue Station Puchong were rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 11.42pm. Once at the scene, the fire brigade retrieved the victims using special types of equipment. The operation ended at 2.40am.
Among those killed involved a 37-year-old woman and her eight children. The 10th victim was not related to the family.
The mother, Norul Naziah Buyong, and her eight children, aged between 10 months old and 17 years old, were travelling in a Proton Wira being driven by the deceased woman's husband, who suffered injuries.
The children were 10-month-old Muhammad Raid Fathi Abd Razak, three-year-old Puteri Nur Ain Syalwana Abd Razak, seven-year-old Muhammad Hidayat Hakimie Abd Razak, nine-year-old Muhamad Rolkaizat Rezky Abd Razak, 10-year-old Muhamad Aizat Syazwan Abd Razak, 12-year-old Puteri Hidayah Abd Razak, 16-year-old Razatul Aliah Abd Razak, and 17-year-old Muhamad Razarul Amin Abd Razak.
The 10th victim, Mohamad Rahimibin Rolex, aged 27, was driving the other Proton Wira.
The driver of the Perodua Axia suffered a broken leg, while a female passenger had light injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the trailer and two children with him were reportedly unhurt.
Prior to the accident, it was said the family's had stopped at KM8.3 near the Subang Jaya R&R as their Proton Wira's battery was dead
According to the Federal police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the other Proton Wira and the Perodua Axia then stopped at the emergency lane to help the family with their Proton Wira.
Muhamad Rahimi, the 10th victim, who was in the other Proton Wira, had helped to jump-start 50-year-old Abdul Razak's Wira at the emergency lane when the trailer rammed from behind.
"The road was slippery and it was raining heavily at the three-lane highway when the crash took place. A trailer rear-ended all three cars along the emergency lane and dragged the Proton Wira which the family was into the right side of the highway," New Straits Times quoted the police statement as saying.
Police have detained the trailer driver for questioning
Urine tests revealed that the driver was not under the influence of drugs during the crash.
