The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results were released today, 31 March, with the top five performing schools all coming from Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM)

In a statement today, 31 March, MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said this year's SPM results marked an exceptionally encouraging achievement for MRSM, reflecting a significant leap ahead of other schools.

"Nineteen MRSMs recorded a gred purata maktab (school average grade) of below 2.0, and 80 students achieved straight A+'s.

"Meanwhile, five MRSMs have secured the highest ranking spots as the top five schools in Malaysia," he said.

The top five MRSMs are:
MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba: 1.139
MRSM Gemencheh: 1.195
MRSM Taiping: 1.224
MRSM Pengkalan Chepa: 1.254
MRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB): 1.284

The gred purata maktab is calculated by converting individual subject grades into grade points (e.g. A=1, B=2, C=3), and is used by the Ministry of Education to measure candidates' overall achievement in national examinations.

A 1.0 gred purata maktab indicates that all students in a school achieved straight A's.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated MRSM students, expressing pride in their continued excellence

"I am deeply proud of the achievements of the 7,636 SPM candidates from 57 MRSMs who continue to drive excellence," he said, noting that 80 students managed to secure straight A+'s.

He added that MRSM recorded an overall gred purata maktab of 2.067, with a 100% pass rate, meaning all candidates qualified to receive SPM certificates.

"Even more proudly, five MRSMs are now in the top tier nationwide, surpassing Fully Residential Schools (SBP) and other daily schools.

"This is clear proof that MRSM remains a leading institution for national educational excellence," he tweeted today.
