Regular commuters at LRT Wangsa Maju are bidding farewell to its beloved resident cat, Cantik, after a series of health concerns led fans to decide it is time for her to retire from station life
According to posts on Threads, the plan is for the community cat — who has become a familiar figure among commuters over the years — to either be placed in a veterinary clinic as a resident cat or be adopted by a trusted owner, where she can receive proper care in her old age.
Concern for Cantik's wellbeing arose when a commuter recently noticed that the cat's ears appeared red and inflamed, with patches of missing fur
After comparing photos from December 2024 and consulting fellow animal lovers, the woman alerted station staff and brought Cantik to a vet for treatment.
On 2 June, she shared that Cantik was doing well and only required medication for her ear condition.
She also revealed that the estimated 7- to 8-year-old cat received parasite treatment, deworming medication, and vaccinations during her visit, before being returned to the station with a medical record card for future reference.

However, the vet visit sparked wider discussions online about Cantik's long-term welfare
"Recently, she was spotted looking very sick, yet thousands of commuters just walked by. It took one kind, observant lady to finally step in and bring her to the vet. If Cantik is truly under their care as a station cat, why didn't the staff take her to the vet in the first place?" one netizen wrote.
"She deserves a forever home," another user commented, alongside photos showing the cat looking more aged than usual.
Many netizens said Cantik would be better off living indoors under proper care after spending years outside as a stray.

Eventually, another woman stepped forward and began discussions with station management to ensure Cantik could retire in a more comfortable environment
"My goal is to let her retire gracefully," she wrote.
In a more recent update, user @pherbies shared that Cantik is currently undergoing treatment at a vet after being found to have low blood sugar, as well as a skin condition believed to be linked to age, stress, and prolonged outdoor living.
She added that Cantik will later be transferred to another veterinary clinic, which may become her permanent home as a resident cat. If not, she would either adopt Cantik herself or place her with a carefully selected, trusted adopter.
Knowing that the cat has many devoted fans, the animal rescuer assured the public that Cantik will be in good hands and that she will continue providing regular updates.

The update prompted an outpouring of love from netizens, many of whom said they would miss seeing Cantik during their daily commute
However, after years of brightening commuters' journeys at LRT Wangsa Maju, many also wished Cantik a happy retirement and speedy recovery.
"Enjoy your retirement, Cantik!" said a netizen.
"I'll miss you, Cantik," another said.
"At her age, she is no longer suitable to live as a stray. She needs senior cat food and close monitoring," one supporter wrote.
