None Other Than Anwar: PH Leader To Become PM If BN-PH Allegiance Follows Through
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that no other Barisan Nasional (BN) names will contest him for the prime ministerial position.
In an unprecedented meeting between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) yesterday, 21 November, at the Seri Pacific Hotel, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been put forth as prime minister candidate
According to The Star, Anwar claims that only his name has been put forward as prime minister and no other BN name will contest his.
"They [Barisan] did not suggest any other names in the discussion. But, [for] my preferred choice for deputy prime minister, let me assume premiership first," Anwar told reporters after the meeting was adjourned.
He also mentioned that BN has not set any conditions and that court cases faced by BN members will not be interfered with.
"The cases aren't related to what has been discussed. The judiciary must be independent," said Anwar.
The Tambun member of parliament (MP) said he is very pleased with the outcome of the meeting and is confident that the BN-PH merge will allow them to form a government as they have exceeded 112 seats.
Anwar said that the economy and political stability will be prioritised if the BN-PH merge follows through
The PH chairperson is confident that the government that forms from a BN-PH allegiance will be a more transparent and democratic one, safeguarding the interests of the nation.
"It will be an inclusive government because we have to focus on governance and the economy, which has been virtually stagnant in the last few years," Anwar said.
PH won 82 seats in the 15th general election (GE15), holding the majority seats. Perikatan Nasional (PN) followed close behind with 73 seats, and BN came in third with 30 seats.
Coalitions have been called to submit their prime minister candidates to Istana Negara today, at 2pm.
