PAS Candidate Allegedly Faces An Arrest Warrant Because He Didn't Pay Child Support
Apparently, he owes a total of RM78,000.
A candidate of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Wan Ismail Wan Jusoh reportedly had an arrest warrant issued against him yesterday, 6 May
Malaysiakini reported that the warrant was issued due to his alleged failure to pay a total of RM78,000 in child support since 2011.
Kota Bharu Syariah lower court judge Rosmah Mohd Zain delivered the decision.
Free Malaysia Today reported that Wan Ismail is a PAS candidate for the Ketereh parliamentary seat in Kelantan, going against Barisan Nasional's Tan Sri Annuar Musa, and Pakatan Harapan's Radzi Jidin.
The arrest warrant came after Wan Ismail's ex-wife, Siti Aishah Chou Abdullah, sued him over unpaid child support expenses between 2011 to 2017
He allegedly failed to pay for the support of his two children, aged 12 and 13, from July 2011 to December 2017. He was instructed to pay RM1,000 a month for them.
Malaysiakini reported the judge as saying that the court had previously ordered Wan Ismail to pay the outstanding child support amount within a week from 27 February. Failure to do so would result in a month-long jail sentence.
However, Wan Ismail dismissed reports regarding his arrest warrant, claiming that it was a "political conspiracy" to ruin his image and reputation as a candidate for the 14th General Election (GE14)
"My lawyer and I have not received any notice demanding my presence in court today (6 May), neither from the prosecution nor the court," Wan Ismail was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
He also claimed that an agreement had been reached in January this year to settle the case out of court. All documents, including his passbook, had been handed over to the prosecution.
"The total amount that I have credited into the bank accounts for my children is RM78,119.04 as of 1 March 2018," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Wan Ismail is currently deliberating legal action against the allegations against him
Berita Harian reported that Wan Ismail is in talks with his lawyer to take legal action against parties that are allegedly trying to ruin his reputation.
