On Tuesday, 25 May, Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, who is from UMNO, was at a press conference at the KLCC LRT station, where he was not wearing a mask under his face shield

Not wearing a face mask under a face shield or a niqab is an offence under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 or Act 342.

Senior Minister (security cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had reminded about this recently.

However, the Prasarana chairman was speaking to the press yesterday with only a face shield on and without a face mask, according to photos and videos that were taken during the press conference.

He was also not wearing a mask when speaking to the press on Monday, 24 May.

He is now being investigated by the Dang Wangi district police to determine if the politician breached COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) by wearing only a face shield and not a face mask

Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said that the investigation is being done in accordance with Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

"All parties involved in this case will be called to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to testify in the near future. The investigation papers will be handed to the Attorney-General's Chambers once the investigation is complete," he said in a statement today, 26 May.

Meanwhile, Tajuddin, who confirmed the investigation, stated that he wore only a face shield as it was easier for the press to hear him

"I was told the face shield was good enough," he was quoted as saying by FMT.

"I am sorry if the face shield was not good enough. The shield is not an ordinary shield, (it was) specially ordered from a reliable source," Tajuddin added.

He justified not wearing a face mask under the face shield by saying that how else was he supposed to talk during the press conference with a face mask, so he thought a face shield would be better.
