The police have rescued a kidnapped victim during an operation to track down a suspect linked to a series of shop break-ins in Damansara, Petaling Jaya

According to the New Straits Times, the operation occurred at Jalan KBK 4, Kundang, Rawang while a police task force was gathering intelligence to locate the suspect at 1am yesterday, 25 September.

When the police officers approached the suspect driving a Nissan Grand Livina, he refused to surrender.

Instead, the suspect reversed at high speed, crashing into an unmarked police vehicle and another car belonging to a resident. Photos from China Press showed the police vehicle was pushed up against a residence's wall after the collision.

In self-defence, police officers fired shots at the suspect's vehicle, fatally wounding him. No officers were injured.

The suspect was later identified as a local man in his 30s with 26 prior records, including 17 for criminal activities and nine for drug offences

The police discovered a large number of burglary tools in the suspect's car.

Following the incident, police unexpectedly discovered a wounded Indonesian man at the suspect's residence. The man was connected to an abduction case for which his family had filed a police report two days earlier, reported China Press.

Sources told the Chinese daily that the kidnapped victim is in his 30s and from Aceh, Indonesia. He was abducted at Jalan Chan Sow Lin in Kuala Lumpur and sustained injuries to his face while trying to resist the suspect.

The victim's family claimed that the suspect demanded a ransom of RM1 million, prompting them to file a report at a police station in Cheras.

The police have since arrested an accomplice linked to the abduction while another suspect is still at large.
