A photo of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's medical team standing by him during the funeral of his late wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, has gone viral on social media
While photos of the former prime minister crying as his wife of over 70 years was laid to rest on Monday, 28 September, have touched many Malaysians, a photo of the healthcare workers caring for him has also caught the public's attention.
The photo, taken by members of the media and highlighted by Facebook page Public Health Malaysia, has garnered more than 100,000 reactions on the page.
"While many Malaysians are concerned about Tun's condition and praying for his wellbeing, three healthcare workers have remained faithfully by his side.
"Coincidentally, they come from three different backgrounds — Malay, Indian, and Chinese.
"It may seem like an ordinary coincidence. But in this photo, it feels deeply meaningful. It is almost as though these three healthcare workers represent Malaysians from all walks of life," the page wrote.
The post highlighted how the healthcare workers stayed close to Dr Mahathir throughout the funeral, ensuring that he received continuous medical care
"Even something as simple as regularly sanitising their hands to maintain hygiene and reduce the risk of infection reflects how carefully they carry out this responsibility.
"Thank you, our frontline healthcare workers. Thank you for caring for Tun with such dedication and compassion. Malaysia appreciates you," the page wrote.
Throughout the funeral, they stayed close to a grieving Dr Mahathir
The three healthcare workers in the photo have since been identified as cardiologist Dr Iskandar Mirza Amran, physiotherapist Kevin Choo, and chief nurse Divya.
At one point during the funeral, Choo and Divya were seen attending to Dr Mahathir, including passing him tissues and helping him sanitise his hands.
Choo also appeared emotional while standing beside the former prime minister during the funeral.
Dr Siti Hasmah, who died at the age of 100, was laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya on Monday, 28 September.
