A suspected police corporal who was arrested for robbing and trying to kidnap a woman in Pandan Perdana on Sunday night, 23 August, is actually a former policeman who was sacked from the force in 2018

In a statement on Tuesday, 25 August, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Fadzil Ahmat clarified that the suspect is a former cop.

Previously, Ampang Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Azam Ismail, whose district is investigating the incident, had said the 46-year-old suspect was under suspension from work.

The suspect was dismissed after his involvement in a drug case

According to Selangor CID chief Fadzil, the former cop was involved in a drug case in Terengganu.

He was dismissed from the police force on 18 July 2018, Fadzil said in his brief statement.

The suspect and two other men were captured in a video trying to forcefully haul a woman out of a restaurant in Pandan Perdana

"The 29-year-old victim was having a drink with her friends at a restaurant at Jalan Pandan 3/10 when three men approached her and introduced themselves as policemen," Mohd Azam said.

"They then grabbed her hands and dragged her toward the parking area nearby before passers-by intervened," the police chief added, explaining that during their initial checks, police found that the woman is a Chinese national while the three suspects are believed to be Malaysian citizens.

While onlookers managed to catch one of them and handed him over to the police, the two others are still at large who have been identified and are being tracked.
