Police Dog 'Chulio' Honoured With 'Jasamu Dikenang' Medal For Finding Missing Elderly Man
This is the German Shepherd's second biggest achievement since joining the police force five years ago.
A German Shepherd from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) tracker dog unit (K9) was honoured with a 'Jasamu Dikenang' medal after locating the body of a missing elderly man last month
The police dog named Chulio from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters was presented with the medal and a bag of kibbles by Batu Gajah district police chief ACP Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif at a ceremony yesterday morning, 31 May, based on a Facebook post.
The award was received by the canine's trainer Corporal Tony Matius Farang.
Mohamad Roy said that the senior citizen who went missing for three days near a palm oil plantation in Teronoh was found drowned in a swamp near the area, according to Harian Metro.
"The operation started at 10am and Chulio found the body in just 30 minutes," he said.
Chulio, who is given daily training, has the special expertise in detecting corpses, said Tony
He added that this is only Chulio's second biggest achievement in locating a body.
Previously, the dog has also successfully located the body of a hiker who was buried under 1.5m of earth in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, back in April.
Altogether, Chulio has taken part in more than 50 operations since he was brought in from the UK five years ago.
