IGP Says Malaysia Records An Average Of 5 Murder Cases A Week
The IGP said conflicts and misunderstandings were the predominant motives of the murder cases.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) recorded an average of five murder cases per week between 2021 and 2023
According to Malay Mail, Razarudin said 2021 saw 239 reported murders, followed by 241 in 2022, and a notable increase to 261 in 2023.
Razarudin also said a total of 1,509 individuals, consisting of 1,332 men and 177 women, were arrested for their connection to murder during that timeframe.
He said among the murder cases recorded during this period, Malays accounted for the highest number of victims, totalling 172, followed by Chinese (141), Indians (131), Bumiputeras from Sabah and Sarawak (62), and foreigners (202).
He added that the ethnicities of another 45 victims remained undetermined.
Razarudin said the motives for 302 of the recorded cases were conflicts and misunderstandings, which he said were the leading causes behind murder cases in Malaysia
"In addition, jealousy was a factor in 56 murders, followed by intoxication (51 cases), revenge (43 cases), robbery (39 cases), and abuse or debt (31 cases each)," he said.
"Negligence leading to murder happened in 14 cases, in addition to mental instability (13 cases), rape (10 cases), extortion (seven cases), organised crime (four cases), abduction (three cases) and snatching (one case)," he added.
Razarudin, however, said there were no instances of serial murder reported in the recorded cases.
