A poverty-stricken farmer in Sabah has become a millionaire overnight after hitting Sports Toto jackpot valued at RM19.88 million

According to New Straits Times, for some strange reason, the 46-year-old said that he started noticing the same car registration numbers in his neighbourhood while he was going about his day.

Hence, he took it as a sign that he must buy a lottery number.

"I used to see the same car registration numbers on different cars in my neighbourhood, therefore, I thought this must be a hint for me to strike the lottery," he told Sports Toto.

The unnamed winner bought Toto 4D Jackpot 1 and his pair of winning numbers were 1793 and 5181.

He brought home a total of RM19,882,487.90, along with a small prize valued at RM336 for buying a System 3 ticket.

Despite knowing that he had won millions of ringgit, he had to wait for a month because he did not have the money to buy an air ticket to Kuala Lumpur to redeem the prize money

"Being a farmer, I struggled to make ends meet. I had to work some odd jobs in order to buy a flight ticket," explained the Sabahan farmer.

"I didn't want to borrow from my friends and relatives because I don't want them to know that I'm a jackpot winner."

He said he will use the money to kickstart the businesses his children want to venture into.

The winning numbers for the jackpots were revealed on 19 July and the total prize money was RM23.63 million

The farmer was the biggest winner, while the rest of the prize money - RM3.75 million - was won by four other punters who bought the i-System tickets in Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor.

Since 17 June, after Sports Toto was allowed to operate again following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), lucky punters in Malaysia have won a total of RM33.69 million from the company.

On 22 July, a punter from Negeri Sembilan spent RM1 on Star Toto 6/50 Jackpot 1 and won RM6.66 million, reported China Press.

The winner is a 48-year-old, who runs a car workshop. He revealed that the numbers he bought were a combination of old winning jackpot numbers that he liked and his own set of winning numbers.

The numbers were 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, and 27.
