A Malaysian celebrity was recently arrested over their involvement in a sex trafficking case

Sinar Harian reported that the popular comedian was arrested at a hotel in Kuala Pilah on Monday, 2 August.

Kuala Pilah district police chief Supt Amran Mohd Ghani said the suspect was detained during a raid where authorities also seized condoms, cash, four mobile phones, and a Perodua Axia.

During the raid, police managed to save a woman from sexual exploitation and a temporary protection order has been issued for her.

The victim has since been sent to a safe home in Johor.

It is said that the celebrity's role in the syndicate is to transport women to hotels after they have been 'booked' online through applications such as WhatsApp

Harian Metro reported that clients are charged over RM1,000 for eight hours of sex.

An unnamed source told the Malay daily that during interrogation, the woman who was apprehended at the scene claimed that she was involved in prostitution activities conducted by an agent named 'Kevin', whose role was to promote sex services through various social media applications.

"Usually, interested customers are asked to deposit money into a bank account under Kevin's name," they added.

They explained further, "The arrest wasn't coincidental as police planned it carefully and conducted a special operation to uncover the human trafficking activities for the purpose of sexual exploitation."

Since the news first came out, a lot of people have been speculating on the identity of the suspect

According to mStar, the man is said to be in his 40s and was once a runner-up of the popular reality TV show, Maharaja Lawak Mega.

A few personalities have since come forward to deny the allegations.

Actor and comedian Zizan Razak told Utusan Malaysia that over the past few days, people have been flooding him with questions regarding the identity of the suspect.

"There are people messaging me personally asking who's the person involved, but I genuinely do not know. I was shocked by what was reported and at night, I made a Google search on the issue. I asked others and others asked me," he said.

"To me, even if I knew, I would choose to protect their reputation. So, to me, if anyone is in that place, then be smart in solving the issue. I wish the best for my fellow comedian friends," he added.

Meanwhile, Shahrol Shiro, another ex-contestant of Maharaja Lawak Mega, said that it could not possibly be him as he has yet to turn 40 years old.

The 38-year-old celebrity told Harian Metro, "A few friends asked if it was me and I already clarified that it is not."

"Thank you for asking first and to those who commented and directly accused me, I don't want you to crawl in the afterlife looking for me. Focus on your other sins because I've forgiven you," he added.

Another name that has been making its rounds on social media is Tauke Jambu, whose real name is Zamratul Amri Zakaria.

He denied the allegations and during an interview with Harian Metro, he said, "I am not involved in any activities like that. It's crazy that someone brought up my name. I am just at home in Bukit Jalil. I'm doing well and there's nothing to worry about."

"Let people say what they want to say, but it's not nice to link me with an issue like this," he added.

The suspect has since been released on bail and the case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007

The matter was confirmed by the Negeri Sembilan police contingent headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department head, ACP Ramlan Abdul Razak.

"We allowed a bail yesterday (3 August), however, this case is still under investigation," he said to Bernama.

The celebrity was also issued with a compound for interstate travel without a permit under the Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) (National Recovery Plan) Regulations 2021.
