Thieves In Malaysia Love Stealing Proton Wira Cars The Most
Ahead of Perodua MyVi, Toyota Hilux and Honda Civic models.
Data released by the General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) reveal that the Proton Wira is the most targeted brand of cars stolen by car thieves in Malaysia
In fact, Proton cars seem to be a favourite among car thieves, with six models locking a spot in the Top 10 car models preferred by car thieves list in 2014 and five in 2015. Check out the full list here:
Malaysia is also said to have ranked sixth globally in terms of auto theft, with an average of 60 vehicles being stolen every day from all over the country, says PIAM CEO Mark Lim
In the first quarter of 2015, 4.539 private vehicles, 7,122 motorcycles and 751 commercial vehicles were reported stolen by the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC).
A total of 4,472 private vehicles, 6,502 motorcycles and 821 commercial vehicles were stolen during the same period this year. with the industry already claims amounting to RM2.41 billion in the first half of 2016 alone.
"This equates to a staggering RM13.2mil per day payout in motor claims for property damage, bodily injury and vehicle theft," Lim said.
However, there has been a 5% drop of car theft cases for the first quarter of 2016 compared to the first quarter of last year
"The total number of stolen vehicles for all classes in the first half of this year was 11,796 vehicles compared with 12,412 for the same period in 2015. This represents a 5% reduction in the number of vehicle thefts," Lim said when releasing the industry’s half-year report here yesterday.
